| Vardon Flyer rated as a winter carnival prospect |

Anthony Cummings has set his sights on Brisbane’s winter carnival with Vardon Flyer, a convincing winner at Canterbury.
Vardon Flyer, well-tried as a $4.60 chance, overcame a wide passage in the early stages before winning the McWilliam's Handwood & Hardy's Handicap (1550m).
“He’s been unlucky in his first two runs back but he got the breaks today and got the cash,” Cummings said.
“I think he’s the sort of horse who can make a name for himself through the winter carnival up in Brisbane.”
Ridden by Jay Ford, Vardon Flyer had to work for a midfield trailing position before chiming in at the 200m. He went on to win by 1-1/4 lengths.
“When it counted he was too strong,” Ford said.
“This horse has come on in leaps and bounds this time in and the good thing about him is that the further he goes the better he’ll be.”
