Important autumn step for Solo Flyer
Classy galloper Solo Flyer starts a serious run towards next month’s Doncaster Mile when he lines up in the $140,000 Newmarket Handicap at Newcastle.

The Newmarket has the potential to shape the rest of Solo Flyer’s autumn campaign because a victory would put him well within reach of shoring up a start in the $2 million Doncaster Mile at Randwick on April 18.

“His trackwork suggests he will take the next step and that’s encouraging because he needs a weight penalty to lift him in the order of entry for the Doncaster,” told Racenet.

Solo Flyer carried 57kg to win at his first start in 10 months when successful at Randwick on March 7.

Leading senior rider Corey Brown takes over from claiming apprentice in the Newmarket.

“Obviously class got him through at Randwick but it was still a tremendous win,” Cummings said.

Solo Flyer has been given 51kg in the $2 million Doncaster Mile and sits 56th in the latest order on entry.

The stable’s other acceptors at the feature meeting will be Perfect Rhythm and Suisuni in race one, Nothin’ Leica Cat (race two) and Big Sai Wan (race five).
