A half-brother to Group I winners Private Steer and All Silent was a highlight lot of Anthony Cummings’s Australian Easter Yearling Sale opening day purchases.
The Encosta De Lago colt was knocked to Cummings for $900,000 – the third highest price on the first day.
He was consigned by Freemans Reach-based Reavill Farm, a farm which sold the stable’s Rosehill Guineas winner Dealer Principal.
“The colt has a depth of pedigree that in two years the people looking for a stallion prospect will take a horse like him very seriously,” Cummings said.
“His mother has horses of the ilk of Private Steer and All Silent and when they produce top racehorses more than once I generally find they do it again.”
Cummings said sale pendulum had swung in favour of this year’s buyers.
“Breeders have had a field day for the past few years. Now it’s the buyers’ turn,” he said.
