Our two-pronged attack on Doomben Cup
Trainer Anthony Cummings is confident of claiming a second Brisbane Group I in seven days with two runners in the Doomben Cup on Saturday.

Fresh winning the BTC Cup with Duporth last week, Cummings will saddle up Prima Nova (Brad Rawiller) and iron filly Miss Darcey (Glen Boss) in the $500,000 weight-for-age race.

“It’s hard to fault both horses going into the race,” Cummings said.

“They were two of the best workers at Doomben on Tuesday, confirming they are still in mint condition despite long campaigns.

“And they were both a bit unlucky in separate races at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago.”

Prima Nova was held up in the Hollindale Stakes before finishing off late to finish fourth while Miss Darcey covered ground when third in the Gold Coast Bracelet.

Miss Darcey, placed in the AJC Australian Oaks two starts ago, is an $8 chance on Saturday with Prima Nova at $11.

"She covered a lot ground at the Gold Coast but she still stuck to her task, they ran pretty good time in the end and she was taking ground off them,” Cummings said of Miss Darcey.

"She's got no weight on her back (53.5kg) and I think she's up to this race."

Prima Nova, the JRA Plate winner at Randwick during the AJC autumn carnival, is also in excellent order after her luckless Hollindale Stakes run.

"In the Hollindale she had no luck getting out and lost three lengths in comparison with the winner who stuck to the rail, and she only got beaten a length,” Cummings said.

Prima Nova and Miss Darcey have drawn alongside each other in barriers 10 and nine respectively.
