| Red Lord to return in Liston Stakes |

The Anthony Cummings stable is confident cups contender Red Lord can produce a top-four finish at his racetrack return from a rare injury in Saturday’s Group II Liston Stakes at Caulfield.
Red Lord missed the autumn after suffering fractured vertebrae in his neck in a freak paddock accident and has been in Melbourne since June to prepare for his spring campaign.
“He worked over six furlongs with his last three furlongs in even time just to top him off for Saturday,” Cummings’s Melbourne foreman Graeme Woolston said.
“He’s in really good order and he flies fresh and providing the track isn’t wet on Saturday, there is no reason he can’t run in the first four in the Liston Stakes.”
Woolston said the Liston Stakes was an open affair despite the presence of the unbeaten mare Typhoon Tracy from the Peter Moody stable.
“With nearly all of the major horses being first-up, there are so many unknown factors,” he said. “None of them will be anywhere near fully wound up and Red Lord should be extremely competitive.”
The barrier draw hasn’t been kind to the stable after Red Lord drew barrier 15 in the Liston Stakes and Nick Hall will pilot the six-year-old on Saturday.
