Turffontein heads quality Cummings trio at Rosehill
The honest sprinter Turffontein headlines Randwick trainer Anthony Cummings’ three-horse team to tackle Saturday’s Rosehill meeting when he resumes in the Group II Premiere Stakes.

Turffontein hasn’t raced since finishing sixth in the Group I Telegraph Handicap at Trentham but Cummings said nothing went right for the son of Johannesburg in New Zealand.

“We went there looking for a wet track but instead we got a surface which was rock hard,” Cummings said. “He jarred up badly in the race so we gave him a six-month spell and he missed the autumn.”

Cummings said Turffontein has been working well in Melbourne but he also said the five-year-old stallion was sent to Sydney because there were no suitable races around down south.

“When he was ready to go there was very little for him there so we brought him up to Sydney and the Premiere Stakes looks a nice race for him.

Nash Rawiller will ride Turffontein in the Premiere Stakes while apprentice Daniel Ganderton will be aboard the promising three-year-old Will To Win in the Group III Run To The Rose (1300m).

Will To Win has not finished further back than second in his three-start career, and Cummings said the son of Elusive Quality has earned his shot at stakes class racing.

“He’s improving all the time and his work has been very good,” Cummings said. “It’s a tough ask for him to win the Run To The Rose but he’s a capable horse who deserves his chance.”

Cummings is extremely confident the in-form mare Seeking Attention can take her recent winning streak to four in the opening event at Rosehill, a rating 89 handicap for fillies and mares.

“She’s won her last three starts and hasn’t taken a backward step,” Cummings said. “All she needs is a decent draw and she’ll win her fourth in a row.”

Seeking Attention has drawn barrier six in the event and will be ridden by Tim Clark.
