Three-year-old filly Lovemelikearock broke her maiden status in no uncertain terms with a strong win against older mares in the Private Steer Handicap (1300m) at Kensington.
Lovemelikearock was given the perfect passage just off a decent speed by Glyn Schofield before mowing down the Gai Waterhouse-trained Tinjirarni in the straight to win by 1-1/2 lengths.
The daughter of Fastnet Rock’s win served to reinforce her trainer’s opinion of her and Anthony Cummings said the filly will be given a chance to record her first stakes win in the near future.
“I really think she’s a quality filly,” Cummings said. “She raced very tractably today and I suppose today is really the first time she’s actually got it right in a race.
“She jumped well, travelled well in the run and the sprint was on early which I think really suits her at this trip and she was too strong and too classy in the finish.”
Cummings will consider aiming the filly at races leading up to the rich Princess Series for three-year-old fillies during the Sydney spring carnival.
Meanwhile, the Anthony Cummings stable’s other main hope; Recoup De Fortune began his spring campaign with a solid third in the Filante Handicap (1300m).
Recoup De Fortune was given every chance by jockey Corey Brown and accelerated well at the top of the straight before his condition gave out near the post, weakening on his run to be beaten by the promising gelding Syreon, from the Anne-Marie Ruttley stable.
