| Turffontein to swoop at Flemington |

The Anthony Cummings stable will revert to old tactics in a bid to keep Turffontein’s unbeaten second-up record intact at Flemington on Saturday.
Turffontein was ridden aggressively when resuming in the Premiere Stakes at Rosehill on August 15 but Cummings’ Melbourne foreman Graham Woolston said the reverse would apply in the Group III Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes.
“He just didn’t really appreciate being ridden for speed there,” Woolston said. “We’ll just let him flop out of the gates and find his own position.”
The tactics have worked with the son of Johannesburg in the past; Turffontein swooped home from the tail to finish a narrow second to Swick in the Group I Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) last spring.
“He’s shown in the past he’s capable of winning a big race when ridden quietly,” Woolston said. “He came straight back to Melbourne after the Premiere Stakes and his work has been excellent.”
Woolston is also predicting a big run from the stable’s cups contender Red Lord when he has his third run back from a spell in the Spring Is The Season Handicap over 1700 metres.
Red Lord finished among the tailenders in the Liston Stakes before improving to finish just off the placegetters in a leader-dominated event at Caulfield last Saturday.
“He was ridden upside down in the Liston and was caught wide,” Woolston said. “But he was good last week and the step up to 1700 metres will only help him.
“I reckon he’s going to run a pretty good race at odds on Saturday.”
Red Lord is a $16 chance to take out the Spring Is The Season Handicap on Saturday.
