Cummings set to have Manikato Stakes trio
Anthony Cummings could have as many as three runners in Friday night’s Group I Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley after deciding to back up Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner Turffontein.

Cummings said Turffontein had pulled up “extremely well” after picking up an overdue Group I in Saturday’s controversial event with the five-year-old to join Duporth and Solo Flyer as Manikato Stakes acceptors.

“Turffontein has done really well since Saturday. There’s no reason not to back him up,” Cummings said. “The other two horses have been set for the race and are also going well.”

Duporth and Solo Flyer had a look at the Moonee Valley circuit on Monday morning with Duporth having the better of his Ajax Stakes-winning stablemate.

The son of Red Ransom clocked 36.84 seconds for the last 600 metres of his work with his final furlong in 11.91 seconds.

“It was pleasing work from both horses,” Cummings said. “Both of them are in terrific order for Friday night. I couldn’t be happier with Duporth.”
