Road To Rock has made it Group I one wins on successive Saturdays for the Anthony Cummings stable after taking out the George Main Stakes over the famous Randwick mile.
Turffontein took out the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield last Saturday at double-figure odds before Road To Rock blew many punters out of the water, starting at $41.
Trainer Anthony Cummings said he thought Road To Rock could improve on his first-up fifth placing, adding he considered having a rare wager on the son of Encosta De Lago.
“Honestly, he did what I thought he would do,” Cummings said. “I’m not a punter but I was tempted to have something on him.
“His first-up run was excellent. We formulated a plan to get him to the Epsom Handicap in the right sort of shape.”
Cummings said he thought the George Main Stakes would give Road To Rock the best possible lead-up to next week’s Group I event where Road To Rock will drop to 52kg.
“We figured this was the beat lead-up race to have him perfect for next week,” Cummings said. “We got the right result today which was terrific.”
The George Main Stakes success was significant for Road To Rock’s jockey Glyn Schofield, the former South African hoop notching his first Group I win since settling in Sydney two years ago.
Now he has had a taste of success at Australian racing’s highest level, Schofield will be aboard Road To Rock in the Epsom Handicap in a bid to score his second Group I in seven days.
