Cummings 2YO on the board immediately at Randwick
Anthony Cummings' spring continues to gain momentum after a victory by Gybe in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick.

With two Group I wins already in the bank, Cummings' first juvenile runner of the season proved too good for her rivals, storming down the centre of a rain-soaked Randwick track.

Cummings said he needed to do some fast talking to convince the filly’s owner into running Gybe who hadn’t been overly impressive in her two barrier trials.

“I spent the last two days talking Bob Crabtree into running her,” Cummings said.

“He was a bit dubious on her trials and then more so after the barriers were drawn.”

The Randwick trainer added Gybe would now be set for a crack at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast in January.

“She is a nice filly that comes out of the Magic Millions sale so she’ll no doubt turn up there in January,” he said.

“She’ll go away now for a short break before coming back for her shot at the Magic Millions.”

Gybe defeated Mafia Miss, another who ran on strongly down the middle of the straight with So Detached finishing off well along the inside.

Winner’s breeding – Gybe is a two-year-old filly by Fastnet Rock out of Great Notice (USA) (Nureyev (USA)). Gybe cost $100,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions Premier Sale.

The time and sectionals – The field covered the 1000 metres in 59.07 seconds with the last 600 run in 35.85 seconds.

What they said – “She has improved every time I’ve ridden her and that was a very good effort today. She’s got some upside too,” said Tim Clark, winning jockey.
