| Valuable Stakes Win for Messenger |

As a half-sister to Group One MRC Caulfield Guineas winner God’s Own, one might expect four year-old Choisir mare Messenger to possess above average ability and she showed exactly that at Gosford on Sunday when she stormed home to win the Listed Belle of the Turf Stakes.
The Anthony Cummings trained mare only broke her maiden two starts back when beating high priced yearling purchase Seventh Reason and went into this tougher assignment off a close second in a Ratings 85 event over at Rosehill last Saturday.
She rose to the occasion producing a career best performance to defeat proven stakes-winner Bernicia by a long head with two more stakes-winners Illuminates and Yesterday finishing third and fourth to confirm the quality of the 1600 metre race.
A $300,000 purchase for Anthony Cummings from the Edinglassie Stud draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Messenger races for the A R E Investments Syndicate and has the overall record of two wins and four placings from nine starts with prizemoney in excess of $112,000.
Messenger is the fifth foal of Sky Chase mare Angel in Disguise (NZ) and is her second stakes-winner joining former top class three year-old God’s Own, now a promising young sire.
Angel in Disguise failed to impress in her only two starts on the track, but as a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate hero Saintly has been given good opportunity at stud and delivered the goods.
Messenger is the second stakes-winner for Coolmore based Choisir (pictured) in Australia this season and is his 21st stakes-winner worldwide.
